I'm an at-home mom in rural Wisconsin with my husband, young child, two adopted shelter dogs (one is a foster fail!), foster dogs, several rescued cats, goats, and horses, organic garden, and ancient fixer-upper farmhouse that sometimes spooks me. I delight in wandering in the moonlight out back, and despise mosquitoes.
Here you will find original poetry, short fiction pieces, excerpts from my fiction, and updates on works in progress. My favorite subjects are animals, everything in nature, life as a woman, and rural Wisconsin -- my home. Photos here are my originals.
You'll also find information on my Reiki practice where I'm a certified Reiki practitioner.
I write about animals, nature, women, and feelings. I like to poke into that invisible, intricate realm under the surface, whether it is trying to see the world the way a shelter dog might, pressing gently through the surface of soil no human has disturbed, or exploring the tension and release in our human hearts.
I write from that place inside me that longs to go home, even though I’m already there. It is an empty place in my core I cannot appease for long, but sometimes it is contented with the company of stories, those other restless, insatiable rascals.
I write for the words, to give them a place to plant themselves, to germinate, to sprout, and to escape the confines of a static void, to grow and thrive as they must.
I write because I must. It is my sincere hope that others will find my stories to be just what they need at the moment. I write for myself, I write for you, I just write.
My novel, Wet Wings, is published, and I have short stories in varied publications. I'll also be featured in an anthology of my short stories, to be published by Clarendon House Publication in the future. My articles have appeared in the Animal Protection Institute’s member magazine, where I worked on issues facing circus and companion animals. I discussed spay/neuter as a guest author in the Sacramento News & Review and have an English Writing degree.
I have worked at an animal shelter, been a foster provider for shelter animals, and volunteered with rescue groups. I'm a foster provider and volunteer for two local dog rescues, Puppers To Love and Albert's Dog Lounge. I am a longtime vegan (whole-food plant-based now, woo-hoo!) and animal advocate. And I am a certified Reiki practitioner who works with people and animals, in-person and distance. I'm just a squirrel trying to get a nut, a frazzled 40-something-turned-mom, trying to figure out this thing called responsible adult.
I'm glad you're here!
